Previously known as a full Structural Survey or full Building Survey, a Building Survey is a comprehensive inspection of a property. Whichever term you use, it is the most complete survey available for domestic properties and provides an extremely detailed analysis of the condition of your property.
The Building Survey report will describe the condition of each element of the house and inspect symptoms, identify defects, explain their cause(s), set out recommendations in order or priority, including information on future maintenance.
This is the most expensive type of survey, and a Building Survey is the most comprehensive and detailed assessment of a property’s condition and construction.
Dampness in Wales
Yes, old houses in Wales are damp. There are reasons for that and it depends who you ask as to whether you will get a full and frank answer or get a sales pitch.
Why use a building surveyor rather than a ‘damp expert’?
Building surveyors will have usually spent at least 4 years at university studying most aspects of construction and materials and will have attended additional training after that.
Someone from a damp company typically has attended a 3-day course run by the PCA (Property Care Association) and be taught mainly how to SELL damp proofing. They are not damp experts, they are salesmen. They sell their products when they misdiagnose rising damp.
