Surveys

[av_breadcrumbs]

Building Surveys

We specialise in surveying older, solid-walled, historic or listed buildings, but are equally experienced in surveying any type of building, where it is more common for there to be complex failures of several elements rather than just one.  This is usually the result of inconsistent maintenance or the wrong materials being used or poor quality repairs being made in the past.

After completing the exhaustive inspection, either a building survey or a defect (timber and damp) survey of your home, we will provide you with a detailed report written in laymen’s terms advising on any defects that need to be addressed and the best course of action to take.

Although we are based in Herefordshire, we operate in many other areas in the UK, including Cardiff,  Bristol and towards London, we also have an operating base in Perthshire where we can survey throughout Scotland and ‘the north’.

We have surveyed for a range of clients from tenants, landlords, owners of flats and terraced houses to country houses and castles. So, if you have questions about your home, want to chat about one you are buying or want to arrange a survey, please get in touch.

Looking For Answers?

Whether you are looking for answers via a detailed specific defect or dampness survey of your home or an extremely comprehensive building survey, this is the only place to get the correct advice for the long-term benefit of your home.

Overview

Heritage and Design Ltd offers specialist and detailed building surveys for home-owners, specifically for old or historic or listed buildings. The survey can take up to a full day to carry out, with the survey fee similar to that of a quick ‘walk-in’ survey provided by other surveying firms.

Plain English

Great importance is placed on the use of plain English and, where technical or generally unfamiliar terms are used, an explanation is included. It’s amusing to read some so-called technical reports from damp companies, supposedly aimed at the lay-person, which contain so many technical terms and Latin names which just go to confuse the consumer.

A building survey report full of technical jargon doesn’t help you, the owner, understand what’s going on in your building. My reports are simple to understand and direct, making then easily understood.

Being able to get across a technical point to a person with no technical knowledge is a bit of a skill that we believe we have mastered. Following a dampness survey, our reports are written as if we are discussing the issues face to face, which enables you to have a greater understanding rather than reading a list of findings or technical jargon.

Sometimes access can be difficult or issues numerous and complex so, if a survey runs on, the fee remains fixed as initially agreed.

The report is emailed when it is completed and the balance of the fee only payable when the hard copy of the report is received.
