Heritage Building Surveyor based in Herefordshire
Heritage building surveys of old houses throughout Herefordshire, Shorpshire and beyond.
Durie Heritage building surveyors are specialists at identifying defects in old houses. We are based in historic Leominster and can carry out building surveys or specialist damp and timber surveys (proper ones) throughout the West Midlands and Wales.
These surveys will clearly identify important issues which you can use to either make a decision on the purchase or to negotiate on the asking price. Most often, we are asked to determine the reasons for defects after purchase. We are happy to do that too.
Is an RICS building survey is the most comprehensive inspection and report you can buy? Well, no, it is not. Anyone who has paid for such a survey will be sorely disappointed. Building surveys from us at Durie Heritage building surveyors are everything you should expect, and more. We not only identify issues that may have been affecting the property for decades, or earlier, we can upick the various layers of repairs and provide a clear guide through the complications to simplify the work that needs done.
Our building survey reports include recommendations for repairs, even maintenance and efficiency issues, set out in order of their priority.
Why go elsewhere?
Fees also include ongoing and continuous contact with us for advice. long after the report is completed. We can advise on suitably reliable and recommended tradesmen if needed.

Dampness in Herefordshire
Despite the overall mild climate when compared to west or south Wales and the west and north of Scotland, old houses in Leominster and Hereford and surrounding towns do still become damp. The causes depends who you ask and what they have to sell.
Why building surveyors and not a specialist PCA damp company with CSRT qualification?
Building surveyors spend at least 4 years studying most aspects of construction and materials before begining working in the industry. CPD events can be a week long, most a day or more. The only qualification a CSRT damp so-called-specialist has is a 3-day course which is mostly about the safe use of chemicals. Search it yourself.
Why do people use the PCA and think the CSRT is good enough? The simple truth is the level of marketing. It is an extremely lucrative business which is made more lucrative by poorly trained RICS surveyors who, instead of taking responsibility and diagnosing issues correctly, pass the liability on. This allows the CSRT damp specialist to effectively write their own cheque.
That cheque is YOUR money. Your window cleaner has probably had more training than a CSRT damp specialist and is more professional – because at least they know how to do their job and do it well. A question would be, would you trust a 3-day trained mechanic to replace the brakes in your car or pilot the aircraft that takes you on holiday?
If the answer is no, then why would you let them loose in your house which is worth hundreds of thousands of pounds or more of your hard-earned money to wreak devastation and still not fix the issues?

We specialise in traditional construction
We understand how old houses were built and the type of materials that were used and also know the common and, sometimes complex, defects that causes symptoms to appear as dampness, which will be made worse by using damp proofing.
