Most of us know that none of the Government departments that have anything to do with old buildings have anything to do with modern chemical injection and waterproofing either.  Neither Historic Scotland; Historic England; Cadw; An Taisce in Eire, or charities like the National Trust; the National Trust for Scotland; the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, the Institute of Historic Building Conservation and many others recommend waterproofing traditional buildings.

The suggestion that damp-proofing old buildings and injecting chemicals, stripping perfectly good lime plaster in the process and plainly ignoring external faults is simply defrauding home owners is refuted by those who practice their trade but a very interesting feature contained in Google (Google/trends) shows the types of searches made and their location.  This proves that damp proofing is not only a very well self-publicised business in the UK but is contained almost completely in the UK.  No-one in the other 50 European countries appears to be interested in damp proofing their old buildings.  It may be that no-one is searching for Leonard Rossiter elsewhere either but the figures are clear.  The good news is that the interest is declining.  Maybe the chemical injectors and destroyers of old buildings will move to another country and create a multi-million pound business there and leave our buildings alone!  One can always hope…..
