First blog – from John @ Heritage & Design

Although having lots of information on my website, I have found that some of it is just ranting. To avoid that I will try using this space to express my frustration at the damp industry who are trying very hard to make large amounts of money by destroying our old houses. Lots of information is out there for home owners to discover how to maintain their buildings but, depending on the search criteria they use – “rising damp” for instance – they will be met with several pages of Property Care Association (PCA) affiliated companies all wanting to fix your rising damp – whether or not is actually exists and is actually the reason for the damp to your house. Use the internet very carefully as the old phrase ‘if you put sh*t in you get sh*t out” applies to it as it does to everything else. You need to know the right questions before you know you are going to get the right answers in return. Searching for “rising damp” will get you information on “rising damp”. Searching on something like “damp survey Scotland” will, after the big-boys paid adverts, sites like Pete Ward’s www.heritage-house.org (fine chap) and then Heritage & Design, quickly followed by more rising damp specialist highly qualified and trained surveyors – NOT.

Comments and questions welcome – as are emails.

I meant to mention, the view on the photo above is while I was inspecting a house in Tarbert – apologies to the owners for not spending all my time on your roof actually surveying your roof but the view was unmissable. 🙂
